Womens' Group Competition – Hula Kahiko and Hula 'auana

[ 1 ] All Participants shall be from a Hula Halau, practitioners of the Hula Arts from Hawaii and around the world who have placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in Hula Kahiko or Hula ‘auana in any of the Hula Competitions listed below or by Invitation of the Moku O Keawe Foundation.

[ 2 ] Each halau must have a minimum of five (5) dancers for each entry and no more than 35.  35 dancers are the maximum for each halau entry.

[ 3 ] Each halau must enter only one group in the Wahine division, and must enter both hula kahiko and hula 'auana categories.

[ 4 ] Fewer dancers may be used in the hula ‘auana category, however all dancers in hula ‘auana must have performed in the hula kahiko.

[ 5 ] Dancers shall meet the following requirements:
All dancers must be at least 13 years old but not older than 45 as of the date of competition.

[ 6 ] Overall Awards shall be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for Hula Hālau with the highest combined scores in Hula Kahiko and Hula ‘auana.

Kupuna Wahine Division

It is an open category for Hula Halau from Hawaii and around the world.


[ 1 ] Dancer(s) must be represented by a Kumu Hula and Hula Halau.

[ 2 ] Dancer(s) shall be 45 years and older at time of competition.

[ 3 ] Dancer(s) must perform Hula ‘auana only.

[ 4 ] Hula Hālau can enter only one group and/or one soloist.

[ 5 ] Hula Hālau must have a minimum of five (5) dancers and no more than thirty five (35) for the Kupuna Wahine group entry.

[ 6 ] Awards shall be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Kupuna Wahine group and Kupuna Wahine Soloist category.
